Zugspitze and AlpspiX

Zugspitze

The Zugspitze is with 2962 m the highest mountain in Germany. A visit to the summit is worthwhile at any time of year! You have an outstanding panoramic view of the mountain peaks of Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Below you lie idyllic Lake Eibsee and the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. To the north, you look far across into the foothills of the Alps. To the south, countless mountain peaks glitter, in the foreground the Wetterstein massif and the Karwendel mountains, further away the peaks of Austria and Italy.
For more information, visit www.zugspitze.de
Quite conveniently, you can reach the Zugspitze plateau by cogwheel train from the Garmisch train station or by cable car from Lake Eibsee. These two trips can also be combined with each other. Once at the top, you can enjoy the impressive view in one of the numerous restaurants with a glass of wine.
Those who want to challenge themselves can climb the Zugspitze on foot. You should plan about 9 hours walking time with average condition for it. Start very early so that you can still take the last train back to the valley. Alternatively, you can spend the night in one of the huts along the way – a very special mountain experience!

Three paths lead to the summit:

From the ski jumps in Partenkirchen you hike through the Partnachklamm and the Reintal, past the Reintalangerhütte and the Knorrhütte to the Zugspitzplatt. After 9 hours of walking you will reach the glacier and can relax and take the train back to the valley.

From Hammersbach near Garmisch you start through the Höllentalklamm, follow the Hammersbach to its source, pass the Höllentalangerhütte and then reach the summit.

Two paths lead from Eibsee to the Zugspitze. The first follows the rails of the Zugspitzbahn, runs below the Riffelspitzen and then joins the trail from the Höllental. The second runs above the Eibsee lake and later joins the trail from Ehrwald. You will pass the Wiener-Neustädter-Hütte and will soon have reached the Zugspitze.

AlpspiX

A mountain experience of a very special kind is offered by the AlpspiX viewing platform, which you can reach with the Alpspitzbahn or also on foot from the Alpspitzbahn parking lot.

On the walkways protruding above the abyss, you will float almost 1000 m above the abyss – of course with an overwhelming panoramic view of the mountain peaks. A summit experience trail and a pleasure experience trail also await you up here. www.alpspitze.org
